Review: Feral Forms ‘Premalignant’ EP

‘But you can’t hear the lyrics…’ they cry! Well, who the fuck cares when the vocals sound like the Balrog unrelentingly spewing vitriolic abhorrence upon its unwitting foes. It’s this love of the extreme that lands me with an empty wallet and slabs of fettered death metal on my doorstep. This sweet little package comes in the form of the debut demo from Trieste, Italy’s Feral Forms titled Premalignant that was co-released on 15th December via Night Terrors Records and Filth Junkies Records.

Featuring members and former members of Grime, The Secret, Claustrum (who also released a killer record this year, you should check out) and Fierce, this four piece have set about drilling through your ear canal with the most abrasive and corrupt old-school tinged death/death-grind you’ve heard all year.

Feral Forms give you three tracks of absolute savagery in the mould of an Angelcorpse or a Diocletian that’ll no doubt drive you gleefully into their swirling and pulverising chaos. Is it just me or has this year seen a rise in more great extreme death metal being released? I’m thinking the new Nuclear Remains for example!

this four piece have set about drilling through your ear canal with the most abrasive and corrupt old-school tinged death/death-grind you’ve heard all year…

The EP’s bestial vocals are just so unforgiving, from start to finish the venomous screams stab and flail from shrieking highs to oppressive lows, all with this gnarly snarl that sounds so heinous, it’ll leave you a pale reflection of the human you once were! The guitar work is equally high quality, brutally fast and chock full of great riffs that are super infectious and with that unmistakable tone from all those classic death metal and grind records I hold so dear.

What Feral Forms do really well though is conjuring up a nightmarish atmosphere that is impossible not to be drawn into. It’s thick, it’s murky, it’s rusty and so abrasive that it’ll dissolve any flesh that comes within two feet of this demonic EP. So, if you fancy seeing what sits behind your flesh covered face then stick this in your ears and let yourself get pulverised by Premalignant. I’m really excited for what comes next from these guys.
