DesertFest is beyond pleased to be welcoming back to our shores the heavy-psych Berliners, Samsara Blues Experiment.
Having played at the inaugural DesertFest in 2012 and, more recently, a barnstorming set at The Borderline with Alunah and Stubb, there’s absolutely no doubt that we’re in for a treat.
For the last five years, Samsara Blues Experiment have been one of the most consistently exciting bands in the stoner rock scene, introducing themselves to the world with 2010’s sublime – and perfectly titled – ‘Long-Distance Trip’; a hypnotic, brooding, jamming collision of sound which struck every right note with those yearning for quality European psych. Quick on its heels was the more straightforward, but no less immense, ‘Revelation & Mystery’, which didn’t forego the jammy feel of their debut, but certainly brought the driven riffs forward a row or two. Last month they released that tricky (make that trippy!) third album, the momentous ‘Waiting for the Flood’. Resetting the balance yet again and placing their free-flowing psych back at the forefront, ‘Waiting for the Flood’ is a space-bound fifty minutes of drifting trance-inducing joy.
Bringing to mind Colour Haze but with more crunch, this German four piece aren’t too proud to riff, but neither are they content to avoid the experimental; a perfect combination to melt both the face and the mind.
DesertFest London 2014 takes place over the weekend of the 25th-27th April 2014 across 3 venues in Camden, London and weekend passes are available from Leeds Tickets HERE.
