Video Premiere: Drive By Wire ‘Slowrider’ – New Album ‘Time Horizon’ Releases Spring 2024

It’s a mystery why Dutch stoner and desert rockers Drive By Wire have never featured on The Shaman, I guess sometimes it happens that a band, for whatever reason, doesn’t land on your radar and completely passes you by. Thankfully we can put that all behind us as today, we’re beyond stoked to bring you the first single from their new album Time Horizon.

Produced by Peter van Elderen of Peter Pan Speedrock fame and set to be released this spring through Italy’s prodigal sons Argonauta Records, the track in question is the four-and-a-half-minute riff rocker Slowrider, about which founding members Alwin Wubben and Simone Holsbeek say, ‘The first single of the new album is a heavy grooving steam roller named Slowrider, it was recorded during a three-day jam session in a cabin in the woods and we’re super excited to finally release new material since 2018s Spellbound.

More On Drive By Wire & ‘Time Horizon’

The Dutch desert-rockers of Drive By Wire offer you an intriguing and unique mixture of fuzz-laiden heavy stoner rock grooves accompanied by the trippy, hazy vocals of charismatic front lady Simone Holsbeek.

Simone, along with lead guitarist Alwin Wubben founded the band in Deventer (2006) writing songs in their basement for the debut album that immediately grabbed the attention of international press. With Marcel Zerb on bass and Ingmar Regeling behind the drumkit, they are capable of building sonic mountains and psychedelic tapestries of sound.

Time Horizon is the band’s fifth album and the follow-up from the release of the highly acclaimed last album Spellbound (2018) which was very well received by both international press and fans, as stated in RiffRelevant that Drive By Wire conjure some supernatural mojo from the start of Spellbound… the hallucinatory undercurrents of Apollo are powerful… one of the best songs The Doors never wrote’.

Soon after that release, the Covid pandemic hit the world and the band used the hiatus to work on film music which led to a few songs being used on American TV series including Batwoman and Riverdale.

Early 2023, the band retreated to a cabin in the middle of the woods. They set up their gear and just started jamming between the trees and under the stars. The result is this wonderful, spontaneous and mesmerizing new album. Very unpolished, raw, pure and with organic vibes.

Eight solid songs that take you to a world outside, on a trip through ‘70s hard rock and psychedelica. Drive By Wire manages to distil these inspirations into a warm organic sound full of hypnotic heaviness and psychedelic echoes of the ‘70s.

The band has been touring through Europe for the last 17 years, did several headline tours in Greece and Switzerland, played most clubs in The Netherlands (Paradiso, Vera, Tivoli) as well as touring and played with the likes of Kyuss, Blues Pills, Mudhoney and Fu Manchu and devoured loads of festival stages such as Eurosonic, Generatorfest, Dijkpop and Zwarte Cross.

Make sure to catch them live; experience a trip to your inner cosmos and out in the sonic desert.
