Review: Bongzilla ‘Dabbing (LIVE) Rosin In Europe’

Not too shabby for some shabby, seedy rockers hailing in from the Wisconsin Death Trip county borders. These bong rockers come creeping into this live recording with an introduction statement, ‘We’re Weedeater without Weedeater’. For the record though, Bongzilla brought out their song, Greenthumb on a recorded track that rings crunch-maximizer was used on the mixing levels. There is feedback for miles on H.P. Keefmaker that bends and molds to the density of their electric echoing backwards in a spiralling void.

When someone tells you, it goes in one ear and out the other, Bongzilla takes it quite literally. Psychedelic, doom-trophic, and southern sludge soup stirred in the middle of various blended genres. In this bubbling cauldron of live European performances, this bandzilla have the makes for a sticky-finger recipe that’s visually addicting. Mixed and mastered by Shane Trimble with little assistance, the most potent release to date is being ushered in by Heavy Psych Sounds via CD, digital and vinyl.

Hippie Stick is going to make you a believer of Bongzilla once and for all before Gestation renders for us nicely at the end, and through our graphic artistic third, dimensional eyes that not only hear metal but can visualize it.

Psychedelic, doom-trophic, and southern sludge soup…

Since 1995 they have been hip to a lot of modern, bud culture topics and stoner rock’s influence on legalization. Members like Muleboy, Magma and Spanky have been at ’em since these rippers of the bong merged from Weedsconsin. If they don’t legalize peace alas, then no one can in North America. They remind other artists to collaborate with the art and music scene, not go in combat against them.

Fans want bands they can listen to and art they can experience it through, not a metal forum they have to join to be in the fan club. We’re all one and this Dabbing… live album is just the ice breaker to open us up to Bongzilla’s past albums that spawn from their Firestarter Stash all the way up to last year’s release Dab City.

Do not spend another moment longer pondering about whether Bongzilla are worthy of a drop spin, just get to dropping these spinning weed metal overlords. Better yet, download the seven live performances by the lead-footers because unlike many, they are successful in recording one.
