THE CUTTHROATS 9: Noise Rock Trio Breaks Silence With New LP; Track Posted At Cvlt Nation

The Cutthroats 9

Following a full decade off the grid, San Francisco-based noise/sludge rock trio, THE CUTTHROATS 9, marks their proud re-invasion of the human population once again in 2014, having confirmed a new spew of tour dates as well as a brand new LP set for release in June.

Blending earthy bends and cool, organic harmonics into the bed of foundation-crumbling low-end swagger and massive amplification, Dissent brings THE CUTTHROATS 9 back into the mix in massive style with seven slamming new tracks. With longtime skinsmasher Will Carroll (Old Granddad, Death Angel) returning to the lineup, and the addition of bassist Tony Baumeister (-16-, Aeges) joining founding guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer (Unsane, Celan), Dissent was recorded and mixed at Louder Studios with producer Tim Green (Melvins, Bikini Kill, Dystopia, The Fucking Champs, Wolves In The Throne Room) where the band recorded their 2000-released self-titled debut LP, bringing everything full-circle fifteen years later.

Dissent’s B-side opener, ‘Dissention‘ is now playing at Cvlt Nation, the track uncoiling a bit of Western twang as well as an Unsane-ish thunder reverberating from within the core of its attack. Get hammered the tune RIGHT HERE.

Dissent will see a deluxe, ultra-quality 150-gram audiophile LP release with download card included via Lamb Unlimited, with lacquers and LP mastering by Lupo at Calyx, Berlin, on June 3rd, followed by a widespread CD release via longtime cohorts Reptilian Records on June 24th. The layout includes photos by James Rexroad and layout by Orion Landon (Relapse Records’ in-house artist).

Black Cobra - US West Coast Tour 2014

Founded at the turn of the millennium by guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer, following the hiatus of his primary band, Unsane, THE CUTTHROATS 9 took the artist’s easily-recognized guitar tone and vocal delivery into a slightly less metallic and definitely more rock direction.

The band instantly began touring and releasing material, their debut single, You Should Be Dead, came out on Reptilian Records in late 1999, which was followed the following year by their self-titled debut LP via legendary cult stoner rock label, Man’s Ruin. 2001 saw the release of their Anger Management EP via Reptilian, and while the band continued touring over the following years, the EP would be their final release before disbanding in 2004.

With Unsane back on the map in the later 2000s, Spencer’s involvement in Celan and more have filled his time over recent years, but mid-2013 saw the reformation of THE CUTTHROATS 9, and the recording of their newest works in 13 years, now prepared to hit the streets as their second official LP, Dissent.
