Through The Lens: Teeth Of The Sea / Hey Colossus @ The White Hotel, Salford, 20th October 2023

I really don’t know where the time goes and how I got so far behind publishing these photos, and yes, there are more Through The Lens posts I still need to sort after this, but hey, we are where we are and hopefully I’ll get them live sooner rather than later, although I can’t promise.

Anyway, enough of the excuses as last October I once again headed to The White Hotel in Salford for The Beauty Witch hosted night featuring Hey Colossus and Teeth Of The Sea who were touring the UK as a double headline outing.

With the gig being on a Friday, the majority of live music venues in the area turn into a nightclub around 10pm, meaning an early start and with it an early finish. However, idiot here didn’t realise, so when I entered the reclaimed car repair garage, I only caught the last few minutes of the opening band Irked so unfortunately no photos, sorry!

Ahh well, shit happens as next up were heavyweights Hey Colossus and as the sextet squeezed on to the stage, you could feel the anticipation in the air as they ploughed through an intense and bludgeoning set. Yes, some say the band fall into the noise-rock genre, and maybe that is the case on record, but live, they’re a different kind of beast as their core mission is to obliterate your inner ear.

With the drumkit and assorted backline removed, and an array of effects and pedalboards now adorning the stage, the time had arrived for Teeth Of The Sea to crank up the tension. The men in white, who could be mistaken as A Clockwork Orange tribute, albeit sans bowler hats, flood the airwaves with their psych, kraut and electronic sonics as the multi-instrumentalists take you in a trance induced journey as they stimulate your aural senses. An awesome set.
