At long last, Finnish doomers Tyranny will be conjuring their special version of dark heavy funeral doom at the Roadburn Festival 2014 when they take to the stage on Friday, April 11th at Het Patronaat in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Though they have existed for over 10 years, the hooded, enrobed Tyranny have rarely played live gigs, and we are extremely happy to have them at Roadburn.
Tyranny are true underground legends in funeral doom despite only releasing two records, the Bleak Vistae EP in 2004 and Tides of Awakening in 2005. One listen to either record plunges the listener into a suffocating subterranean world where the only air is filled with dense ambience, macabre deathmasks and forbidding doom. Giant drums pound out the final heartbeats of life underneath cold, rigid guitar lines in no hurry to change.
Glimpses of faraway light take shape in sadly beautiful keyboard lines that hang like musty, tattered lace over in the attic window of a decrepit Victorian house. And then the vocals arise deep from the earth like newly reanimated corpses struggling out of the dirt. This is classic funeral doom worthy of comparison to Thergothon and Skepticism — heavy, dark, slow, menacing, yet somehow melodically gorgeous at the same time. Prepare to be crushed.
Roadburn Festival 2014 will run for four days from Thursday, April 10th to Sunday, April 13th, 2014 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
