Through The Lens: Mario Lalli & The Rubber Snake Charmers @ Joshua Tree Retreat Center, 22nd February 2024

Desert rock legend Mario Lalli and his Rubber Snake Charmers played a show to celebrate Mario’s birthday at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center on Thursday 22nd February. It was an hour-long intimate show that was well received by those in attendance.

The music was one long heavy rock improvisation with Lalli at the helm controlling the direction of the music. Sean Wheeler’s stage presence and poetry serve well as a focal point for the crowd’s attention. The brightness of Otis Link’s saxophone playing stood out and provided a refreshing contrast to the otherwise more typical rock instrumentation.

The entire event, from free admission and bottled water to Otis’ friends selling refreshments in the lobby had a homespun feeling that was comfortingly reminiscent of bygone days.
