In advance of their October release of Forever Becoming, PELICAN have debuted an alternative version of the quaking album track (and personal favourite) ‘Deny The Absolute‘. This particular version will be available on a 7″ released by Mylene Sheath and digitally as an iTunes exclusive release via Southern Lord next week, an original recording will feature on the new record.

Listen and share below:

Coordinating a clamorous democracy of metal and abstracting murmur, Pelican sound as clever and as heartfelt as ever during these six minutes. Starting with heavy slabs of marble riffs, they chip away with artisanal craft, revealing moments of respite and urgency, sinew and beauty, and finally, majesty, as their statue reaches completion in a climatic mute chorus.

Forever Becoming marks the first full-length album the band have released in four years, and is due October 14th in the UK/EU on forward-thinking metal imprint Southern Lord.

The Chicago-based quartet, whose instrumental excursions to the confluence of caustic heaviness and cathartic melody pioneered a subgenre, recorded at Electrical Audio with Chris Common (who engineered the group’s last album as well as albums by Chelsea Wolfe and These Arms Are Snakes). Forever Becoming is an immense, speaker-rattling meditation on the acceptance of mortality and its place in the eternal cycle. Composed of eight songs, the album boasts a sonic palette that veers from pummeling metal, to contemplative ambience, to melodic catharsis all with landmark grace.

Following a hiatus that saw the departure of founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and the arrival of new second guitarist Dallas Thomas (also of The Swan King), the forthcoming album is the work of a wholly revitalized unit, sounding more focused and assured than ever. The current lineup’s undeniable chemistry was forged in front of crowds at festival appearances, including Bonnaroo, Roadburn, and Maryland Death Fest, as well as recently on their summer European tour.
