Video Premiere: Ufomammut ‘Mausoleum’ – New Album ‘Hidden’ Releases 17th May

The year of our dark lord 2024 sees Italian psychedelic doom warriors Ufomammut celebrate 25 years in existence, and we at The Shaman have been aboard that tripped-out ride after featuring them in the site’s early days when back in 2006, they played a titanic gig at The Attic in Manchester hosted by our dear friends, and sadly missed, Future Noise.

Back to the present day as after the release of their stop gap EP Crookhead in October, the trio are readying themselves to delve further into their expansive and mind-altering sonics with their new album Hidden. But before its official release through Neurot Recordings and the band’s own imprint, Supernatural Cat on 17th May, we at The Shaman are ecstatic to bring you the lyric video for the latest single Mausoleum.

About the track, the band says, Mausoleum, the longest track on the album, captures a slow and mysterious pace that mirrors the text’s comparison of human beings to mausoleums. Just as a mausoleum stands as an important monument and timeless wonder, so too is the human body described as a vessel for our ashes.’

So sit back, press play below to experience the heavy, hypnotic and psychedelic rhythms encapsulated by the swirling visuals that is Mausoleum

More On Ufomammut & ‘Hidden’

Ufomammut formed in the late ‘90s by Poia (guitars, FXs) and Urlo (bass, vocals, FXs, synths), (rising from the ashes of past band Judy Corda), together with Vita (drums). With Levre taking over on drums in 2021, they have undergone a rebirth, culminating in the release of the album Fenice and the Crookhead EP.

Over the course of 25 years, Ufomammut has developed a unique sound that combines heavy, dynamic riff worship with a deep understanding of psychedelic tradition in music. This has resulted in a cosmic, futuristic, and technicolor sound that fully immerses listeners. The band has produced ten records along with various other releases, such as compilations, EPs, and live albums.

Now, in 2024, as they celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the band is set to release their latest album, Hidden. This album marks a shift in the band’s musical composition, aiming for a more intense and heavy sound, and it’s the third release featuring Levre as the band’s new drummer. The title, Hidden, reflects the concept of the presence of everything in our existence and the ability to bring to light what lies within us.

With Hidden, Ufomammut delves into a sonic journey that traverses vast expanses of space and time. From the crushing heaviness to the hauntingly melodies, from the textured compositions to the otherworldly atmospheres, Hidden testify the never ending evolution of Ufomammut and their mastery of creating immersive sonic experiences: a fitting celebration of their 25 years of sonic exploration and experimentation.

The album was recorded at Flat Scenario Studio in Piemonte, Italy, with Lorenzo Stecconi handling the mixing and mastering, and Luca Grossi overseeing vocal tracking.

The album will be released on 17th May 2024 through Neurot Recordings in collaboration with Supernatural Cat, the record label of the rock ‘n’ roll graphic design collective Malleus, of which Poia and Urlo are part of. Hidden will be out in a limited edition vinyl version of 500 copies only (crafted entirely by hand using photosensitive colours that are activated by sunlight, bringing the concept of the album to life), in a regular Gatefold cover LP edition, on digipack compact disc and in a digital version.

The artwork of the album is by Malleus Rock Art Lab and like any good psychedelic trip, the music of Ufomammut has always been inextricably intertwined with visual art. Poia describes longer compositions ‘like a painting’ as if to reinforce the relevance and importance of visual art in Ufomammut’s music.

Very important:
Ufomammut = UFO: U(nidentified) F(lying) O(bject) – Mammut: Italian for mammoth.
Ufomammut should be pronounced in the Italian way, sounding like ‘oofomammoot’.
