Premiere: TankZilla ‘Wrong Place’ – From Their Self-Titled Debut Album That Drops 19th May

It’s Tuesday and it’s time for some infectious rock ‘n’ roll groove, or as TankZilla like to call it ‘rock stoner swamp boogie’. Whatever tag you want to give them, the Dutch duo of Peter Pan Speedrock’s Peter van Elderen on guitar/vocals and Marcin Hurkmans on drums are here to get ya booty shakin’ as they prepare to unleash their debut Self-Titled long-player.

Who else but Italy’s purveyors of all things rawk, Heavy Psych Sounds, will release the album’s eleven raucous tracks on the 19th May, but today, prior to it hitting the streets, The Shaman is able to bring you the second single in the form of the three-minute cut Wrong Place.

About the track, the band say, ‘The two main riffs for this song were originally intended to be much more laid back, played over a slow beat. We liked the idea a lot but we also both felt we needed something that would spice up our repertoire, tempo wise. After trying various things, we accidentally discovered that if we would adjust the feel of it all by tweaking the first riff a bit and speeding up the second one, we basically had what we needed.’

And then add, ‘So to put it short; we had the right riff in the right place but in a wrong time or timing if you will. Since we’re stubborn bastards and we like to do things our way, we also – just like the riff – decided to tweak the title, which became Wrong Place Right Time, the fastest TankZilla song ever made. Fasten your seatbelt cuz we put the pedal to the metal on this one!’

More On TankZilla & Their Self-Titled Album

Satan fucked a Panzer and the offshoot is TankZilla. Or so it seems. Well, this is what really happened in the Eindhoven grit: after Peter Pan Speedrock went tits up, singer and guitar player Peter van Elderen hooked up with former Wolfskop drummer Marcin Hurkmans. As soon as these music junkies started jamming, they got on like a house on fire: it felt as if their motor skills were connected. In the same vein as Repomen, Peter’s short-lived but heavier-than-thou Roadburn alumni, the tarmac grooves are scorching. TankZilla goes full-tilt boogie!

About their debut album, TankZilla comments, ‘As we write this, it’s hard to realize the long road we’ve traveled to get to this debut full length. We started rehearsals 5 years ago with absolutely no ambitions. We were without bands at the time, both cranking amps and slaying drums at the local rehearsal space, so it felt only natural to jam together. Nobody could have guessed what was about to happen, ‘cause after we decided to join forces, all hell broke loose.’

The band continues, ‘While shows were growing at a fast rate, we started finetuning the ’TankZilla sound’. Not long after, we were invited to perform at the almighty Roadburn festival where we released our first 7 inch. Fast forwarding through the pandemic, we finished writing a dozen songs. And here you have it. Recorded in Belgium, no Dutch beers involved, no fillers, no fancy stuff. Just the result of true & pure rock ’n’ roll style recording sessions. Put it on and crank the shit up ‘cause this one goes to eleven!’
