When San Diego, California’s trippy stoner and doom power trio Nebula Drag are readying themselves to release their new album Western Death through the awesome Desert Records on the 8th December and The Shaman is asked to do a premiere, there really is only one response and that’s ‘Let’s do this!’.
The four-minute trippy and heavy guitar shred closes this colossus album, about which guitarist and vocalist Corey Quintana says, ‘The title track Western Death is about curiosity and listening to your inner voice.’
And how label head honcho Brad Frye hooked up with the band, he reflects, ‘I first met Nebula Drag in 2018 while on tour with Red Mesa. My amp blew a fuse (always bring backup fuses), and I needed an amp for the show. Corey from Nebula Drag let me play through his Orange amp. The two bands became instant friends at the show that night. When I was looking for bands to sign during the first year of Desert Records, Nebula Drag was an easy choice.’
And continues adding, ‘In 2019 Blud was released, and now four years later Western Death will be released in December 2023. These guys put on some of the best live performances of the heavy and psychedelic bands in the US. The new album shows them at their best ever. It tears a hole in the sky and sends you into orbit.’
