Video Premiere: Peter Wolff & Jens Borgaard w/ Kai Lietzke Present ‘Destroyer’ The Full Movie
Back in November last year My Proud Mountain released Destroyer, the Peter Wolff and Jens Borgaard enthralling collaboration that features nine chilling tracks of dark and ambient soundscapes which Sandy Williamson said in his review that ‘industrial samples crash and splinter behind the apocalyptic poetry of the lyrics’.
The project wasn’t just an audio journey though as Wolff and Borgaard approached videographer Kai Lietzke to create a visual experience to enhance the music, about which Lietzke explains, ‘The film embodies the destructive story of the album without human reference points and only through images with pure association of natural forces. These are primarily created in an artificial way and play with the limit of one’s perception through the merging of organic and virtual aesthetics’.
Back in March, The Shaman brought you the first glimpse of the captivating visuals that accompanied the track Dwell. Now today, a year on from the album’s release, prepare to immerse yourself once more in shadowy soundscapes and haunting visuals as you join us for the premiere of, not just another clip, but this time the full movie of Destroyer in its entirety.
Now click play below for a near forty-minute adventure of ethereal tones and hypnotic imagery from the visionary minds of Wolff, Borgaard and Lietzke…
More On Peter Wolff, Jens Borgaard & ‘Destroyer’
Destroyer is the third solo work from Downfall Of Gaia’s Peter Wolff.
This time he joins forces with Dutch folk singer Jens Bogaard of Knifefight and filmmaker Kai Lietzke who already worked with Wolff on the last album movie Breath.
Destroyer is a record that combines the dark ambient soundscapes of Peter Wolff with the deep warm voice of Jens Borgaard and the incredible film work of Kai Lietzke who again made a full art movie for the album cut into videos for each song.
Pairing the traditional folk background of Jens Borgaard with Peter Wolff‘s affinity for dark electronic music as well as post-metal/crust-core when playing guitar in Downfall Of Gaia, results in a mesmerizing, intimidating landscape of sound.
After witnessing a fatal car crash, this record attempts to portray the merciless void experienced by the person that caused the deadly accident and is taken into custody. He is cuffed, put in the back of a police car, and nervously tries to reflect on the mere minutes gone by. This very moment is what Destroyer is about.
‘The confrontation, the urge to forget, to flee to anywhere but here and to put blame on anyone but himself and finally he realizes that the death he caused will destroy all that was before’ says Borgaard about the idea of the album.
The record is brought to completion by Kai Lietzkes’ haunting visuals that make Destroyer an audio and visual experience. About his work, Lietzke says,‘Rocks symbolize the inescapable fate of the protagonist and his environment, the phenomenon of the mirage and amorphous structures as a metaphor for the slipping away of one’s own reality, the sea as a symbol of death, and heaven and hell as an exaggerated representation of inner turmoil. A journey through the abyss mirrored by synthetic worlds’.
Destroyer was recorded by Peter Wolff, the recording was then sent over to Jonas Romann who mixed and mastered it at ChaosCompressorClub.
