It’s Monday, so let’s kick off the week with another band that’s new to us here at Shaman HQ. Residing in Sardinia, an island located off the west coast of Italy, the duo of Riccardo Podda on guitar/vocals, and Mauro Cocco on drums, operate under the moniker Bentrees and dish out some seriously fuzzed-out heavy psych and stoner grooves.
As they prepare to release their six-track sophomore album Two Of Swords through Argonauta Records on the 19th November, it’s our honour to bring you the near eight-minute track Brain War, which the band has this to say about its origins…
‘In keeping with the album’s theme of duality and ambivalence, Brain War represents the silent war that takes place in the human brain; the fact that every path that people take necessarily excludes others and what this can mean for the person in terms of coherence/incoherence. Metaphorically, the oriental characteristics that can be heard during the song recall a duality, a contrast between the parts of the brain, as if they were the part of the western world and the eastern one in contrast to each other.’

More On Bentrees & ‘Two Of Swords’
Sardinia based heavy psych and power stoner rockers Bentrees release their hotly anticipated, sophomore album Two Of Swords on 19th November via Argonauta Records.
The Italian duo plays a vibrant mix of fuzzy blues and hard rock influences, drawing from the 70s wrapped in the glory of 90s and early 2000s stoner rock. With an addictive and heavy riffage, introspective lyrics, references to their homeland and the connection with nature – shrouded in a powerful psych rock sound – ever since their formation the band has created its very own, authentic formula.
Following the band’s 2017 debut, Psychollage, and countless live shows with acts such as Yawning Man, Black Rainbows, The Cosmic Dead, The Spacelords and Pater Nembrot to name just a few, Bentrees are finally gearing up for the release of Two Of Swords.
Says the band: ‘Two Of Swords is made of six heavy rock tracks; it tells about duality in its multiple forms and it opens up some new musical paths for us. On this sonic journey, heavy riffs and pounding drums meet psychedelic landscapes, each song tells a story that somehow has ambivalent contours.’
