Damnation Festival: Decapitated Cancel

Damnation 2011

It is with great regret that Damnation Festival announces that Decapitated will no longer be performing this coming Saturday.

The band were returning from a tour in America this week, when the plane they were travelling on was forced to crash land in Poland. As a consequence, the band will not be able to travel this weekend.

A statement from the band was received as follows:

“We are extremely sorry to inform our fans, that due to unforeseen circumstances that are out of our control, we will unfortunately have to cancel our shows in Aalborg (Aalborg Metal Festival) and Leeds (Damnation Festival)”

Festival Organiser, Gavin McInally added “It’s a major blow to the festival to lose a band like Decapitated, especially with only days to go but I understand entirely why they need time to recover from what must have been a terrifying incident.

“It’s disappointing news for both us and the band but most importantly, no one was seriously injured and hopefully we will be able to host Decapitated in the future.”

Ulver have agreed to extend their set to 90mins following the news and Damnation Festival pledges to do everything possible to make this up to disappointed Decapitated fans.

Leeds University Union is set to play host to an explosive line up, jam-packed full of both international and UK talents. The Devin Townsend Project will head up the stellar line up that also includes heavyweights Godflesh, Ulver, God Is An Astronaut, Turisas and Chthonic. The day will be kicked off by an array of home grown talent including Humanfly, Dragged Into Sunlight, Conan and Astrohenge.

Gavin McInally continues: “Despite this set back, we will continue to put the final touches to this, our seventh edition of Damnation Festival- and it’s shaping up to be an awesome day. Earlier concerns about poor ticket sales have been laid to rest; the Damnation faithful have shown their true colours and this looks set to be a stormer of a festival. All that’s left for you guys to do is show up, and party hard with us”.

In addition to the unforgettable line up of musical titans that are performing on November 5th, a number of the artists on the bill will also be hosting signing sessions. Devin Townsend, Turisas, and Chthonic, among others have all agreed to meet and greet their fans. There will also be a metal market, crammed to the rafters of merchandise, CDs and other assorted goodies- so don’t forget to bring your hard earned cash.
