BORRACHO Release New Record ‘Oculus’ On July 18; Now Streaming At Heavy Planet

Borracho

DC sound attackers BORRACHO have announced the July 18 digital release of their new record ‘Oculus‘, available now for free preview exclusively on Heavy Planet at THIS LOCATION.

The release will be available for download from major online retailers and from the band’s Bandcamp page on July 18, and will see a limited edition 12″ vinyl release in the fall courtesy of long-time label co-conspirators No Balls Records (Germany) and Strange Magic Records (US).

Oculus‘ delivers BORRACHO‘s signature fuzzed out, dynamic grooves with heaping helpings of the low-and-heavy the band’s audience has come to expect. The songs are sonically familiar, with a clear emphasis on riffs and rhythms, but the vibe the band achieves is a step in a freer power-trio direction. The album doesn’t lack for hooks, either, in its five songs and 35 minutes, and captures the guys stretching out to epic proportions as they are known to do. Longtime fans and those just discovering the band alike have a lot to sink their teeth into.

The recording marks the arrival of founding guitarist Steve Fisher as the band’s new lead vocalist after singer/guitarist Noah Greenberg moved abroad last year. BORRACHO has been performing live as a trio since July 2012, and making solid new impressions along the way. Fisher brings new character and significant pipes of his own to the new music, while the rhythm section of Tim Martin on bass and Mario Trubiano on drums lurches more to the fore in the trio lineup.

“The year has had its share of twists and turns,” Fisher remarked. “A few months ago we were in the studio with Noah, and here we are releasing a record with me singing. We’ve worked hard to keep the fans happy since Splitting Sky came out with new vinyl singles, and have had some awesome opportunities. Shit, we even released our own beer. But to get this one out there and introduce the new incarnation of the band to the world is very fulfilling.”

Oculus‘ again united the band with their mainstay behind the boards, Frank Marchand, this time in his new Hudson Street Sound studio in Annapolis, MD. The results should be no surprise. Warm, thick tones, double barrel bass kick, and production that spotlights vintage sounds without ever approaching retro. Marchand has recently worked on new releases for Iron Man and Foghound, and of course BORRACHO ‘s debut ‘Splitting Sky’.

The band hits the road next week with Columbus, Ohio’s Lo-Pan for a run of shows on the east coast that culminates with an appearance at the Eye of the Stoned Goat 3 Festival in Brooklyn, NY. Presented by Heavy Planet and Port City Brewing Company, ‘Oculus‘ digital release will be celebrated July 19 at Rock and Roll Hotel in DC. The show will also feature good friends Weed is Weed and Kingsnake, who will each join other dates along the way, guaranteeing some high quality, no joke riff-offs night after night. Fans who hit the shows and visit the merch table will also receive a free download of the brand new record ‘Oculus‘, so get out there and hear it live!
