Through The Lens: Messa / Julinko @ The White Hotel, Salford, 22nd February 2023
Just 24 hours after the Author & Punisher and Zetra gig at The Deaf Institute in Manchester‘s city centre, our editor-in-chief was once again out with camera in hand, but this time to The White Hotel. An interesting venue as this once car repair garage has been converted for the sole purpose of live music, and although it’s located in Salford, it’s right on the border with Manchester and literally a stone’s throw away from Strangeways.

And the reason for this venture, Manchester promoter The Beauty Witch was playing host to the spellbinding doom rock of Italy’s Messa, who, for the most part, kept their jackets on as it wasn’t exactly the warmest inside, however, cold aside, they still played a blinding set that featured tracks from their current album Close that’s out now on Svart Records.
Support for the night came from Julinko, the solo project of fellow Italian Giulia Parin Zecchin, and although little was known about her at the time, she played an interesting set of looping ethereal soundscapes and heavy distorted drones. Now check out the photos from the night below.
