Jesu ‘Lifeline’ CDEP 2007

Jesu 'Lifeline' CDEP 2007With the rate of his output, it’s clear that Justin Broadrick is deeply committed to Jesu and he has outdone himself again with ‘Lifeline’. The EP easily stands up to any of Jesu’s previous material and the four tracks flow seamlessly, gliding organically and introspectively into the listener’s subconscious with ease.

The multiple layers of ‘You Wear Their Masks’ combine to create a warm and uplifting song that, like most Jesu material, is tinged with a longing sadness. ‘Storm Comin’ On’ features singer Jarboe, who lends her vocal talents to the track with excellent results. The bagpipe like sounds employed by Broadrick give the song a distinctly Scottish feel, one that compliments the ascending notes and uniquely sung lyrics of Jarboe throughout. Closer ‘End of The Line’ features the most usage of guitar on the EP and it’s also the song on which Broadrick’s vocals sound the most optimistic, it is a beautiful end to another great release from Jesu.
