The Devils Rejects - Lions Gate Films - 2005
Here we have the eagerly anticipated follow up to Mr Zombies excellent House of a Thousand Corpses. Starting with the haunting sounds of 'Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground' by Blind Willie Johnson and a brief rundown of the previous carnage explaining why they are called 'The Devils Rejects', the film gets underway. Onto a huge gun battle when the families house is besieged by police. What ensues after this is a deranged 'Natural Born Killers' style, on the run film with nods to the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Dusk till Dawn'. The remaining Rejects are pursued by Sheriff Wydell, a badass renegade cop whose brother the family killed in the previous film. Aided by a couple of hired killers called 'The Unholy Two' he hunts down the rejects with manic zeal.
On the run, the rejects are brutal, fucking up anybody who gets in their way. Bringing their twisted sense of fun with them, a terrifying time awaits their victims. Good to see Captain Spaulding in this, also providing his own craziness, funniest clown I’ve ever seen! We also get to meet his brother in this film who is as crazed as Spaulding. A better made film than House... with a bigger budget and all, but I still prefer House… as it’s more fucked up. Who can forget Dr Satan and his axe-wielding bouncer? Finally Mrs Zombie is sporting some cool low riding jeans and does a lot of butt shaking and dancing, a joy to behold.
