The Descent - Pathe Distribution - 2005
This great British horror starts with a rather brutal shock which impacts on the rest of the film. A group of new age thrill seeking girls decide Pot Holing would be their latest exhilarating conquest and settle for Boreman Caves in the isolated wilderness of the Appalachian Mountains for there location. It becomes apparent pretty quickly that alls not well with there subterranean trip. Then after a terribly claustrophobic and tension filled incident in a particularly tight passage the true horror of the situation manifests.
The girl’s journey through this cave is horrible, with a whole host of incidents and obstacles in their way. The tension really does not let up with this one and the underground environment is really claustrophobic. The tension is such, I started to feel a bit of a panic myself at some scenes, even though I was sat in the safety of my own front room (maybe the smoke had something to do with that hehe!). Anyway I thought this was a belting film and much better than Marshall’s previous outing Dog Soldiers.
