Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell ‘Isobelle’ 7” 2016

Admiral Sir Cloudeseley Shovell 'Isobelle'It’s impossible not to love Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell.

It doesn’t matter that these two tracks sound like a lost recording of some obscure 1973 band who played 15 gigs before breaking up, getting jobs never to be heard of again.

It doesn’t matter that it sounds like it was recorded with 2 mics straight to quarter inch tape one evening in a practice room.

It doesn’t matter that the sleeve looks like the love child of Hawkwind’s Space Ritual and Hotter Than Hell by Kiss.

It doesn’t matter that this consists of only 2 tracks and is over before you can blink.

None of this matters because Isobelle is a full bore, boogie tune and Break Up is almost funky in its execution, both are catchier than a cold sore at a school disco but most importantly literally no other band taps into the whole retro vibe and sound better than Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell.

To complete the full 1973 vibe this should really sell for 50p and you should immediately write your name at the top of the sleeve in biro so you know it’s yours when you take it to a party along with a Watneys Red Barrel. I suspect it’ll cost more than that but buy it anyway and play it on a Dansette record player for maximum effect.
